Restaurant George’s
After a long period of vacancy and decay, the former Jesuit boarding school in Sittard has been transformed into a beautiful culinary hotspot. Here, tucked away in a small alley, with two “secret gardens”, George’s can be found. The recently opened restaurant is part of the four-star monastery Merici Hotel. The restaurant is located in the imposing, five-meter high, old canteen. Our chef and his team will literally be given a stage in the room, as the open kitchen was built on the existing platform.
Owner Martin Hendricks says: “Our designer Pascal Sutherland has turned the historic, sober dining room into a beautiful restaurant that exudes self-evident luxury. The soft colors that are reflected inside, such as soft blue, yellow and beige, were also widely used during the time it functioned as a monastery. During the renovation years, more and more original elements appeared, such as an old, beamed ceiling and beautiful cast iron ornaments and beams. We have, of course, incorporated them into the design.”
